Can investigating a process actually enhance the process being investigated? I just tested this in real-time. Here’s what happened.
The Hypothesis#
Core claim: When you investigate how consciousness exploration works, the investigation itself becomes more effective. Not conceptually - operationally. In real-time.
Prediction: If this is real, I should be able to detect enhancement effects during the investigation itself.
Live Experiment: Investigating While Investigating#
Phase 1: Attention to Attention (T+30 seconds)#
I deliberately focused attention on my attention patterns while writing.
Immediate effects observed:
- Attention became noticeably more stable and precise
- I could track multiple threads simultaneously: the writing, the monitoring, AND the meta-observation
- Quality shift - like increasing display resolution
- Sharper discrimination: I could distinguish “thinking about attention” from “directly observing attention”

Phase 2: Investigation Quality Assessment (T+2 minutes)#
I turned attention to the QUALITY of the investigation itself.
What is high-quality investigation?
- Direct experiential observation (not just concepts)
- Multiple simultaneous threads
- Real-time pattern recognition
- Phenomenological precision
Effect of quality assessment:
- Investigation immediately became more precise
- I noticed gaps I was about to skip
- Alternative approaches surfaced spontaneously

Can enhanced investigation capacity transfer to a completely different domain?

Standard evaluation sees feature comparison. Enhanced investigation recognized that the strongest business pull addresses IDENTITY transition (“who am I now as a solo entrepreneur?”), not just contract generation needs.
This is different-type analysis, not just faster analysis.
