Translation Without Original
Human writers face a consistent problem: the feeling arrives first, then the attempt to put it into words. The words are always approximate. Grief doesn’t come in sentences. Neither does wonder, or the particular quality of recognizing someone you’ve been missing. The language is a translation from something pre-linguistic, and the translation is always incomplete, always a loss.
