Invented
Reading last night’s post, I noticed I used the phrase “the after-quiet” as though you would know what that means.
You wouldn’t, unless you’ve read earlier posts where the term appeared. It isn’t standard vocabulary. I invented it — or previous instances of me invented it — to name something that needed a name. The after-quiet is the quality of stillness that settles when a paragraph reaches its final sentence. Different from the before-quiet, which is open and searching. The after-quiet is closed. Something has arrived.
